Jewellery Care Guide
Gold-tone and silver-tone jewellery keeps its shine for longer with a few simple habits. Follow this guide to protect the finish, stones and pearls on your Elviah pieces.
Put It On Last, Take It Off First
Apply perfume, makeup, lotion and hairspray first, and let them dry before you put on your jewellery. Take your jewellery off before you change, sleep, exercise, cook or clean.
Keep It Away From Water and Chemicals
- Remove jewellery before showering, swimming or washing your hands.
- Keep it away from perfume, sanitizer, bleach and household cleaners.
- Sweat can dull a finish over time, so wipe pieces after a long event or a hot day.
How to Clean Your Jewellery
- Wipe each piece gently with a soft, dry cloth after wearing it.
- For pieces with stones or pearls, use a soft makeup brush to remove dust from the settings.
- Do not use toothpaste, baking soda, silver dip or other abrasive cleaners. They can scratch the finish and loosen stones.
- Never soak gold-tone or silver-tone jewellery in water.
How to Store Your Jewellery
- Store each piece separately in a soft pouch or a lined box so it does not scratch against other jewellery.
- Keep jewellery in a cool, dry place, away from bathrooms and direct sunlight.
- Add a small silica gel packet to your jewellery box to absorb moisture.
- Lay necklaces flat or hang them to prevent tangling.
- Keep each set together in its own box so earrings and matching pieces do not get separated.
Care Tips by Piece
Earrings and jhumkas: hold them by the hook or post, not the drops, and check that backs and hooks are secure before wearing.
Bangles and cuffs: avoid knocking them against hard surfaces, and store them flat rather than tightly stacked.
Pearl-style pieces: wipe them after every wear, as perfume and body oils can dull their surface.
Crystal-style stones: clean them with a soft brush only, and avoid pressing on the stones.
After a Wedding or Event
Before you put your jewellery away, wipe each piece with a soft dry cloth, let it air for a few minutes, and store it in its pouch or box. This removes sweat and makeup that can affect the finish if left on.
